About Fawkner Property

Our strengths

Our team

The current Directors of Fawkner Property have over 75 years of combined experience across the Australian property funds management industry. Together they offer a diversified skills set including property Identification and Acquisition, property leasing and management and Trust governance.

Since 1995, the Directors of  Fawkner Property have arranged and managed property syndicates to a total value in excess of $500 million.

OWEN LENNIE

OWEN LENNIE

Director

Over 30 years’ direct involvement in property asset management and investment evaluation, including launching the Industry Superannuation Property Trust and being the key property consultant in establishing the Asset Management Group of the ANZ Bank.

Former Managing Director of WRF Property Limited (total assets under management $250 million) and York Capital Group Limited (total assets under management $300 million). These positions have allowed Owen to develop and maintain a thorough understanding of property funds management objectives and processes.

Several Victorian Government appointments, including chairman of the Building Advisory Council, inaugural chairman of the Planning Advisory Council and a director of the Urban and Regional Land Corporation for 10 years.

Former president and honorary life member of the Australian Direct Property Investment Association (now Property Funds Association), the industry body for unlisted property fund managers. A qualified accountant, town planner and fund manager as well as an associate professor at the University of Melbourne.

Director

At Fawkner Property David is directly involved with the retention and recruitment of tenants across the property portfolio in his capacity as the Director of Property Management and Leasing.

David Turner has more than 30 Years’ experience as a Shopping Centre Manager of sub regional, neighbourhood & bulky goods retail assets across 3 states of Australia, managing Assets on behalf of leading Investors and Property Institutions.

David is a fully Licensed Real Estate Agent, Auctioneer and Business Broker and has been involved in a number of significant retail asset sales and acquisitions.  David understands intimately the nuances of retailing and the management of retail assets and has developed a national network with retailers and Government Agencies.

SHANE WAKELIN

Director of Distribution

Shane joined Fawkner Property in early 2018. Shane has previously held an Associate Director role at global accounting and financial services firm Deloitte for 4 years, providing strategic consulting advice to both government and non-government organisations. In addition to this, he has held a General Manager of Commercial Operations role within the Australian football League, with responsibility for all sponsorship properties and corporate partnerships at the St Kilda football club.

Over the past 4 years Shane has held residential property consultant and project management roles within the residential construction industry, working closely with property development companies, construction companies and local council.

Shane previously graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Deakin University and a Master of Business Administration at Victoria University majoring in Accounting and Finance.

Shane is responsible for Business Development activities at Fawkner Property, including all investor relations and distribution for all ‘Private Property Trusts’. Shane is a member of the Fawkner Property investment committee and draws on his in depth understanding of the Australian property market to support the ongoing acquisition and divestment strategy of Fawkner Property.

Prior to commencing at Deloitte, Shane was a professional athlete in the Australian Football League for 15 years playing a combined total of 252 AFL premiership season games. Shane represented the St Kilda and Collingwood Football Club. Shane currently holds a position as a member of the Australian Football League Tribunal committee, a position which he has held for 4 years.

HANNAH MANSON

Acquisitions Executive

Hannah joined Fawkner Property as Property Portfolio Manager in 2018 and assumed her current role in July 2019.

Before coming to Fawkner,  Hannah was a Senior Valuer at Fitzroys, concentrating on statutory valuations and has previously held roles at the Goodman Group and other agencies.

Hannah entered the industry through the Savills Graduate Programme where she gained extensive property management experience and knowledge of property as an asset class.  During her time at Savills, Hannah worked in Valuations also and was successfully admitted in 2013 as an Associate of the Australian Property Institute (Certified Practising Valuer).

Hannah holds a Bachelor of Applied Science – Property and Valuation (Hons) from RMIT University.

Network Relationship Manager

Sam joined the Fawkner Property Team in January 2018 as a Property Portfolio Manager. Sam holds a double degree - Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from Deakin University graduating in 2017.

As Network Relationship Manager and member of the Acquisitions team, Sam is responsible for building and maintaining stakeholder relations, generating new acquisition opportunities and fostering strategic partnerships throughout the business.

Sam is currently in the process of undertaking further legal studies to gain admission to practice in Victoria.

Investor Relations Manager

Natasha has more than 15 years experience in customer service & administration. Natasha joined Fawkner Property in September 2013.

Natasha has worked in the financial service industry since 2006, and has extensive experience and knowledge in investment portfolio administration, compliance and customer service. Natasha is experienced in the safe handling of confidential client information and maintenance of information systems.

Natasha oversees all investor enquiries and requirements, account queries, administration, distributions and works closely with the Financial Controller & Portfolio Property Managers.

Property Portfolio Manager

Tom joined the Fawkner Property Team in July 2017, he graduated from Deakin University with a Bachelor of Property and Real Estate and a Bachelor of Commerce in 2019.

Throughout Tom’s study he sought to combine his professional experiences with his Higher Education studies to develop a holistic understanding of the Property and Investment industry.

As a Property Portfolio Manager, Tom will seek to enhance the performance of properties under management as well as maintain high level relationships with any members involved.

On top of managing his own Portfolio, Tom works closely with the Directors and other Property Portfolio Managers to deliver a high level of service that represents the ‘Fawkner Property’ brand.

Financial Controller

Jas joined Fawkner in February 2019 as the Fund Accountant.

Jas has a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance), a Master of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) and a Diploma in Business (CFA).  Jas is a CPA and, before coming to Australia, was pursuing her CFA designation.

With more than a decade of experience post graduation, Jas is an experienced financial controller and finance team leader.  As well as financial accounting, Jas has skills and experience in management accounting and business finance.  Before joining Fawkner, Jas was financial controller at The Network Group.

PATRICK GARNAUT

Director

Patch Garnaut has been involved with Fawkner since it’s inception and became a non-executive director of the business in 2016. Patch has a background in both listed and unlisted investment research and is directly involved with the product construction and distribution.

Patch has completed undergraduate degrees in Property and Real Estate as well as Commerce with a major in Finance. Patch has also completed a Masters Diploma in Applied Finance majoring in Portfolio Construction.

Patch has an in depth understanding of listed equity markets including A-REITs. With numerous listed companies as tenants, Fawkner is able to draw upon Patch’s research capabilities to conduct thorough due diligence on the quality of covenants from these listed entities.

Our story

The company was brought to life next to Fawkner Park and was inspired by John Pascoe Fawkner's legacy of integrity and creating wealth through property. Following the global financial crisis, the Fawkner Property team created a funds management company that was focused on delivering positive outcomes to investors through strict compliance and management conservatism.

2010

Fawkner Property was incepted to meet the demands of a change in management in two unlisted Private Property Trusts. The trusts had previously been mismanaged and Fawkner was appointed to uphold a strict level of compliance and manage the trusts through the stresses created by the Global Financial Crisis.

2011

On 3 June 2011, Fawkner was appointed the manager of the then named Private Property Trust 2. On 11 June 2011, the unitholders of Private Property Trust 1 also voted to appoint Fawkner Property as the manager of the trust. Fawkner continues to manage Private Property Trust 1 to this day, releasing the properties and delivering outstanding outcomes to unitholders.

2013

Fawkner Property completed its first roadside retail trust. Fawkner executives had a long history in the convenience retail sector. This knowledge was able to be translated into long-WALE property trusts focused on delivering consistent reliable income from essential service tenants.

2014

Fawkner Property incepted Private Property Trust 5, which has since closed. The trust commenced with two Caltex anchored roadside retail centres in Victoria which were sold in 2018 to a listed Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT). The sale price reflected a 20.5% premium to the latest independent valuation at the time, setting a record price in the Highway Service Centre asset class.

2016

Fawkner property incepted its first regional retail property syndicate, Private Property Trust 9. The trust focussed on non-discretionary retail with over 80% of the rent from major & mini-major tenants, including two Coles and one Woolworths.

2019

By 2019 Fawkner Property was solidified as one of the market leaders in Roadside Retail and Convenience. Fawkner had syndicated over $250 million in Roadside Retail assets which continues to grow today.
